Our Services include
-
A traditional or religious funeral takes place most often at a church organised and run by priests, usually followed by burial with heavy emphasis on the religious beliefs of the deceased and the family.
-
A civil funeral mainly revolves around the deceased with no or limited religious aspect. The service is run and organised by a Civil Celebrant or one of our Funeral Directors (Nigel Davies, Nigel Collins, Barb Fergusson or Shannon Johnstone).
We will sit with the family and talk about how exactly the funeral will be run, what music to play (if any) and anything else to personalise the funeral.
The funeral typically takes place at a chapel at one of the cemeteries or a chapel nearer most of the attendees/family. Civil funerals generally proceed cremation however burial is an option.
-
A graveside service skips going to a church or chapel all together and the whole service happens at the cemetery next to the grave. These can be religious or not it all depends on personal choice.
There’s usually some poems and a eulogy and a small talk about death an why it’s important to gather at a time like this, and for the religious services, a homily by the priest and scripture.
-
A witness cremation is the final send off for your loved one, most commonly done with Hindu services but available for anyone,
A witness cremation typically follows a service at a church or chapel, though you may want to skip those entirely and just witness the cremation without a funeral.
Typically a witness cremation has the space for ~15-20 guests (depending on the crematorium), the guests will sit or stand in a room with a window, a curtain will open showing the coffin in front of the cremator. When the family is ready we will let the crematorium attendant know its time, they will open the furnace door and push the coffin in. They usually keep the door open long enough to see flowers catch fire then close the door. (They don’t keep the door open for too long as the gas cremators reach temperatures of ~ 1000-1300 degrees Celsius)
The bookings for a witness cremation are 30 minutes, anything longer and the crematorium may charge extra.
-
A natural funeral is designed to reduce the impact of the environment, by ways of using untreated wood for the coffins or using a calico or vegetable extract shroud to bury.
Reducing the impact of the environment by not having flowers or order of service cards. Dressing the loved one in biodegradable or natural fibers and not using any preservatives in the mortuary during preparation.
-
Funerals don’t always have to be at a church or chapel, more and more families are opting to have a celebration of life at home. We can have the deceased there in the coffin or on a cold plate (a cold plate is a device that’s placed under the body to keep cold). You may wish to have a celebrant and have a service or you may choose to have a BBQ and a final drink with your loved one in the back yard.
Most of the time with a home funeral, the deceased has been cremated and their ashes are on display in the home, we have a wooden urn you may wish to rent or check out our urns page.
We can transfer the ashes into the urn so you don’t have to.

Funerals are a sad time as we remember those who have passed, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun, from Hawaiian shirt themed services to a full Viking Burial. We are here to cater the funeral to your particular (sometimes bizarre) service requests, we would go as far to say we even enjoy seeing all the costumes and even participate in the chosen dress codes!
